Peterborough, NH – Cont’d.

Day 2 – 2/28/21

Today we hit the road to do some exploring.  We started with brunch at the Peterborough Diner.  My partner had breakfast, her choice was the eggs benedict atop veggie burgers with a side of home fries.  She said the eggs were very good but the burger was only acceptable, but there are better veggie burgers available.  We also had onion rings which were made with the flaky batter that seems so hard to find lately, delish.  I had lunch selecting a turkey BLT club sandwich on sourdough.  The sandwich was made with slices of tomato on both sides, the bacon was perfectly crisp, and nice thick slices of turkey.  It was almost a challenge to wrap your mouth around it.  Certainly one of the best club sandwiches I’ve had in a while it came served with french fries.  The price was very reasonable, the service excellent, and we will probably go back tomorrow before heading out.  The price came to only $35 with extras, and special accommodations for the eggs.

After finishing breakfast we walked across the parking lot to the Toadstool bookstore.  A nice size store the main store has a large selection of new offerings, a children’s section, a new and used music and video room in the back and used books.  The used books are what we came for.  Located on the side of the building, it is probably about one third the size of the main store and has an excellent well organized setup.  The great thing about the used book stores is you never know what you might find, from your favorite authors, to historical and how to books as well as a large children’s section this store is a great place to look.  Possibly you will be enticed to try a new author, I was.  On this trip my fiancée selected a nice large hard bound copy of “The Hobbit” and I found a couple books for my reading research and a new satirical author to try out.  For seven books we paid about $40, that’s a bargain.

We popped back to our Inn before heading out for the afternoon.  If you are going to stay in Peterborough I would highly recommend the Jack Daniel’s Motor Inn.  This was our second stay here and both times we have been very satisfied.  It’s not the Ritz but that’s not really our style anyways.  Clean, roomy and comfortable rooms with a good bed at a very reasonable price.  This time we had a room with a river view, very nice.  The hosts are very friendly and accommodating, I’m sure we’ll return for a future visit again.

This afternoon we are heading out for a spirit adventure, local breweries and distilleries.  I’ll share our experience there next time.

Till then, ta ta,  Randy
