Day 1 – Feb 27 2021
New Hampshire is a state you can travel to where they’re not totally freaked out by Covid. Refreshing during these times. I love my home and the stuff I can do where I live but it is nice to get away from my everyday once in a while.
We recently returned to Peterborough, NH for a weekend getaway. Last year we discovered this little gem of a town in southern NH. Friendly people, great food, if you like to shop used books there are a number of book shops in town and nearby and many other local shops, distilleries, and breweries as well as other activities within a short driving distance.
To celebrate my fiancée’s birthday we ate at Del Rossi’s Trattoria, in Dublin, NH. Only 10 minutes away from the inn we were staying at in the adjacent town of Dublin is some really fine Italian food. The restaurant was well attended and a birthday party was going on in the back while surprisingly there was Irish music playing softly in the background. This may have been a request as after the birthday party left the music shifted back to a more traditional Italian theme.
After being seated in a quaint little room on the side we started our meal with a drink each and fresh baked bread followed shortly by nicely presented fresh salads. The restaurant does have some gluten free options for those with diet concerns. The main dishes were excellent, my fiancée had the eggplant parm with a second glass of wine, my bourbon was still holding out nicely, while I had the chicken parm. Both were cooked perfectly and the spaghetti sauce had a very nice flavor, not too thin or acidic.
To finish the meal we selected a dessert special to share, fudge cake. It was delightfully light for a chocolate cake and was the perfect finish for the meal. The entire experience was very pleasant, the staff was attentive without being intrusive. All told the bill came to just over 90 dollars, a very reasonable price for the experience.
This will be on our list for a return trip in the future and if you are in the area I would highly recommend. You should call for reservations, you can check them out at delrossis.com.
Mangia bene! Till next time, your reviewer Randy.
